Joshua Chubbs, 23, is charged under the Medical Act of Newfoundland for engaging in medical practice without a license from June 1 to Oct. 15, 2016. He’s also accused of advertising those services from Dec. 1-16.
A Carbonear woman claims Chubbs offered to perform a circumcision on her son and that she reported Chubbs to authorities.
Chubbs’ newly retained St. John’s lawyer Johnathan McDonald told The Telegram Wednesday his client is aware of the magnitude of the charges he’s facing, but points out that they are allegations.
“And no matter what the allegations are, an individual facing criminal charges is presumed innocent,” said McDonald, who would not discuss details of the case.
“That’s what the court process is for.”

McDonald, who is originally from Carbonear, said he understands how rumours can spread, especially in a small town, and he’s trying to help Chubbs deal with that.
“I’ll be working hard to make him understand that no matter what’s said or no matter who is talking about him, it does not impact the right and fairness he’s afforded,” McDonald said.
