Enough of this time wasting
If there was anyone west of the Isthmus of Avalon who still believed those in the upper echelons at Memorial University in St. John's weren't stalling on the plan to make Grenfell College independent, John Crosbie's tirade should put that to rest.
Crosbie, former politician and now chancellor of MUN, issued a missive late last week berating anyone who favoured accepting the recommendations of an in-depth study released this spring.
The study was done by two world-renowned academics hired by the provincial government. Crosbie, in essence, claims the two professors don't know what they are talking about and the provincial government shouldn't have its nose stuck into university businesses.
Crosbie has every right to express his opinion but he didn't go to any length to keep his bias from hanging out.
Most people on this part of the island have a long history of battling the mighty capital city for any chance to grow and prosper and this seems to be just another case of keeping power where it belongs - in St. John's. Far be it for anywhere in this province to have the talent and drive to give the high and mighty a run for recognition.
The areas of concern being expressed by those who run MUN are at best minor and able to be worked out.
They should get on with solving the problems and ease the transition so Grenfell can flourish ...if that's not to scary a prospect for them to accept.
