Nothing changes print this article
The Western Star

There seems to be plenty of grumbling of late about the reason the province has suddenly become more agreeable over threatened changes to health care in Flower’s Cove and Lewisporte.

New Health Minister Jerome Kennedy has visited both communities where his predecessor decided to close X-ray and lab facilities and move them to larger centres and offered to amend the plans.

Some in this province are saying the changes are coming about because of a byelection campaign underway in the district where the Flower’s Cove voters were riled at the planned closure.

But really who cares?

The residents of Flower’s Cove and surrounding communities surely couldn’t care less why the changes are coming ... just as long as they are for real.

The same goes for the people of Lewisporte who got a reprieve because Kennedy had to treat them the same as the people of Flower’s Cove — for the sake of fairness if no other reason.

It’s amusing to watch and listen to members of political parties as they move in and out of power over the years.

The Liberal opposition is indignant about the changes and their impact on rural Newfoundland, but they are quick to forget the negative impacts of their decisions when they held the reins of power.

It’s most evident when the present government appoints one of its party hacks to a plum position in government.

If one wasn’t old enough, one might think the Liberals hadn’t looked after its political pals when they could.

It would almost be laughable ... if we weren’t paying the lot of them.

Dave from NL writes: Who cares?

I cares. Anyone who cares about the state of our democracy should care.

Boo to the Western Star for abdicating its role as a public watchdog. I guess it's ok with you that Danny is running around trying to buy yet district.

Guess Charles Pender wasn't the only PC poodle in the Bay of Islands area.

STOP THE RACKET STOP DANNY WILLIAMS from NL writes: What Danny Williams has done since he was elected and continues to do today is run a one man show a form of dictatorship and things get done when its good for him and he wants to make himself look good. There will be a poll done before the two upcoming by elections asking are you pleased with the Premiers decision regarding Lewisport and Flowers cove. The obvious answer is yes. Who in their right mind could say no? Then that simple yes gets turned into a massive approval rateing of everything Danny Williams does not just this one particular event. That my friends is how he gets the high numbers in the polls. They are always done after some announcement from Danny Castro that he himself knows will garner a yes answer to whatever question is asked. He can manipulate things to make them any way he wants them to be and for that I agree he is indeed good. I am 99% sure of that but that little 1% gives me a way out if I need it. Hell it works for Danny why not work for all of us. He always leaves a way out for himself and he always has someone to blame or take the fall for him when things go wrong. Skeptical Cynic from Bunghole Tickle, NL writes: The only racket on these posts is those shrill anti-Danny diatribes by that STOP THE RACKET character.

Give it a break, will ya buddy? We've all been made well-aware of your sentiments regarding Danny Williams now, so why don't you just relax and take your medication. You sound like you're about to go into meltdown over there up or something.

These shrill rants against DW are becomig quite tiresome.

Fred from Corner Brook, NL writes: we can thank our lucky stars we got danny , i can only imagine the piles of money the jkl party (jealous knucklehead liberals) would be giving away and feathering their own nests with. i hope danny is premier for the next 30 years.

Native NL'er from Winnipeg, MB writes: I certainly care. If the people of Lewisporte and Flowers cove re elect the Cons into their riding they will have Xray services for the following 6 months to a year. Send a message to the House of Assembly once and for all. Vote anything but Conservative.

As for Fred from Corner Brook, NL. I certainly hope your beloved Danny boy does more for C.B. when your mills closes than he did for Stephenville when theirs closed.

It was Danny who went to Stephenville and vowed if elected the first time round, the Stephenville mill would never close under his term as Premier. Only after he watched it close announced he should not have made such a promise.

Too many brain washed NL'ers for me when I read comments as short minded as hoping Danny is around for the next 30 years.

Isn't it in C.B. where locals have to fill the pot holes in the streets on their own?

Please.

TJ from CB, NF writes: not much good to vote for anyone other than danny, it would be different if the others had anybody worth voting for. there don't look like anyone if the near future either that can do a good as job as our danny. the job will be dannys as long as he decides to run

Terry D. from Flower's Cove, NL writes: The thing is that these people don't fully communicate their ideas to the people who need to know. If they put more effort into quantifying the results in relation to their directive, much more would be accomplished. More people should be concerned enough to bring forth their own ideas on how this can be dealt with in the most feasible manner. Politicical ties should not enter the equation, we need all the assurances we can get.

STOP THE RACKET from NL writes: Skeptical Synic as tiresome as you say my rants are you apparently still read them. Why is that I wonder? My sincere apologies to you that I dont worship and adore the man the way you apparently do. Thats your right and the fact that I disagree with many of the things he does is my right. Danny calls those who dare to disagree with him traitors some call us haters or Danny haters now you think anyone who dares to question the great almighty Danny Williams must be on some kind of medication. Gee nothing more original you could have come up with. Whatever medication you yourself must be on appears to have your little brain whatever is left of it all screwed up. You apparently can only see what Danny wants you to see and hear what he wants you to hear. Most of us us have an opinion and we are allowed to express it. So who really has the problem here? We think for ourselves and Danny does yours for you. Get well soon my friend.

Bert from NL writes: Fred...... with people like you around Danny Williams will probably be premier for the next 30 years if he wants to be. Its mindless worshipers like you who have elevated him to sainthood. I voted for Danny Williams in the last election Fred my boy so I guess that must make me almost as smart as you are. Well Fred I have seen the error of my ways. The man I helped elect has turned into an ego maniac dictator. Thats not what i voted for Fred. Did you? I will NEVER vote for him again Fred but I sure as hell bet you will. Its the cult followers like you who keep the dictatorship alive and well. So go drink your cool aid Fred. Not sure what the flavour of the day is but you would drink anything Danny tells you too anyway. All hail Danny. The supreme being.

Question from NL writes: Whats wrong there Skeptic? Does the truth about Danny Williams bother you? It seems to have had that affect on many people lately but thankfully more and more are seeing him for the little man he really is. You will probably never see that side of him because you dont want too. Oh well carry on as usual. All us anti-Danny people are jut traitors anyway. Dannys words not mine.

Frank Blackwood from Richmond Hill, Ontario writes: If Premier Danny Williams wins the two by-elections in Newfoundland and Labrador on October 27th, something has to be said about our people in reference to seeing the harm Williams has already done. People are scared to death that they may even lose the little they have left if Williams loses. The winners will be those who come to the outports from St. John's to encourage support for Danny. You may never see those faces again as they only want to see Danny keep on winning so they can reap from his victories while the people of rural Newfoundland suffer more.
